About Dr Dannaway

Dr Dannaway is an academic orthopaedic upper limb surgeon‚Äč. He completed his medical degree at the University of Sydney with 1st class honours. During this time he received the University of Sydney Academic Merit Prize in 2011 for academic excellence, and the K C T Rawle ACCS Association Prize in 2012 for proficiency in clinical surgery.

He completed his orthopaedic training through the NSW training network and achieved fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.


Dr Dannaway has practised as a physiotherapist and a doctor in a variety of settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and sporting events. He has significant experience working in high-performing multidisciplinary teams. This includes elite sporting teams such as the NSW Institute of Sports soccer program and Manly Sea Eagles rugby league teams.

Furthermore, he has collaborated closely with physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals in a hospital setting for more than 15 years. He recognises the value of interdisciplinary collaboration and understands that the collective expertise of a team yields the best results.


Dr Dannaway holds a Master of Philosophy degree with a focus on orthopaedic research. This advanced research degree allowed him to delve deeply into orthopaedic topics, develop critical thinking skills, and contribute to the body of knowledge in the field. The focus of his thesis was predictors of outcomes in arthroplasty. He has published and presented his findings locally and internationally. In 2023 he was awarded the Younger Fellows Leadership Exchange Grant by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in a competitive application. This experience has instilled a strong commitment to evidence-based medicine and continuous improvement in patient care.

In addition to his clinical and research qualifications, Dr Dannaway also holds a Master of Clinical Education degree. As a part of the degree he produced a research thesis that examined the state of educating medical students about the principles of adult learning and teaching. Furthermore he was awarded the Clinical Supervisor Support Program Scholarship in 2013 by the Health Education and Training Institute in order to further his involvement in teaching and mentoring roles.


Dr Dannaway has been awarded a number of dedicated local and international fellowships in shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand surgery, including complex trauma. He underwent a rigorous six-month Australian fellowship focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery. In addition, he specialised further in shoulder and elbow surgery during a six-month fellowship at Southmead Hospital in Bristol, UK. 

Furthermore, Jasan has completed a six-month fellowship at Bristol Royal Infirmary, where he focused on elbow, wrist, and hand surgery. This invaluable, hands-on training allowed him to refine his surgical skills, expand his knowledge of complex upper limb conditions, and develop a commitment to excellence and continuous learning.
